life:
From 1946 to 1956, there was arguably no greater comedy duo in America than that of Martin and Lewis — that is, Dean and Jerry — the velvet-toned crooner lothario and his spastic, rubber-faced partner. Together, they packed the top nightclubs in the country, made 17 movies, and appeared on television and radio innumerable times. And then it all ended, as abruptly as it began, leading to an infamous, decades-long feud.
In 1949, as the team’s star was still rising, LIFE sent photographer Ralph Morse to capture the antics at New York City’s Copacabana nightclub for a cover story. Many of the photos never made it into the magazine. Now, in honor of the duo’s first performance together 65 years ago, they are published here for the very first time.
PLEASE REBLOG to show your LOVE AND SUPPORT for Norway and it’s people in this devastating time. 90 people confirmed dead, and the numbers are rising. Read more here.
This scene. This scene right here. He hesitated. When McGonagall stepped forward, he lowered his wand, even if it was just for an instant. Because even if they weren’t the closest of friends, he’d worked with this woman for years. He’d known her for such a long time, and he hesitated because he doesn’t want this. He never wanted any of this, but he does it for the same reason he’s always done it. For Lily, because she would have wanted him to do what he had to do to protect Harry. And when McGonagall attacks him, he does nothing but block the attacks. He doesn’t attack back. Not because he can’t defeat her, but because he doesn’t want to. He retreats. He leaves. He’s done so much. He knows Harry already hates him for having killed Dumbledore and “betrayed” Hogwarts. And even if he didn’t like Harry because he resembles James so much, I’m sure Severus realizes that Harry embodied not only his father, but his mother’s characteristics. He’s genuinely a good person. He has her eyes, and Snape could only take so much of those eyes looking at him with such hatred. So he left, without putting up a fight. You could say he was out numbered, and that’s why he left. But Snape’s not just some weakling. He’s the Half-Blood Prince. He could have taken McGonagall, and with the help of the Carrows in the back, probably could have stopped the adults in the back, too. But he didn’t. He left. And while the people in my audience cheered during this scene, I was crying. Think about how hard this all has been for him, and knowing that, in the end, Harry would have to die. After everything he did, the boy had to die. Yet he still did everything he had to. All for her.
Okay, I’m done.
